Australia Cairns Hotel Accommodated Tour 2

Day 1: Cairns - Cooktown

Depart Cairns at 7.00am. Travel north through the Daintree Rainforest. Cross the infamous Daintree River by cable ferry and travel onto the primeval jungle. Continue along the famous Bloomfield Track (weather permitting). Stop at the quaint Lion's Den Hotel for lunch, before continuing past the eerie Black Mountain to Cooktown. Tour the sights of historic Cooktown including spectacular views from Grassy Hill.

Australia Cairns Hotel Accommodated Tour 3Day 2: Lakefield National Park

Travel through the agricultural district of Lakeland on the way to 'Quinkan Country' near Laura. Climb the sandstone escarpment at Split Rock to view ancient Aboriginal rock art dated in excess of 13,000 years old, depicting traditional activities and culture.

Explore Lakefield National Park, the second largest in Queensland at 537,000 hectares, and see waterlily covered billabongs, birdlife and wildlife before arriving at the Telegraph Station and now working cattle station of Musgrave.

Day 3: Weipa

Cross the Great Dividing Range to visit the old gold mining town of Coen. Onward we cross the picturesque Archer River before heading to the west coast of the peninsula to the bauxite mining town of Weipa.

Day 4: Moreton

Travel via Batavia Downs to the Wenlock River, site of the historic Moreton Telegraph Office, with time for exploring, bushwalking, bird watching or relaxing.

Hotel: Tented cabins with linen provided, share facilities, Moreton.

Day 5: Bamaga

Our 4WD adventure is at its best today as we travel along the famous Telegraph Track through Cape York's unique wilderness. Enjoy lunch and time to swim in the pristine waters of Fruit Bat Falls.
Later, cross the mighty Jardine River to Bamaga.

Day 6: Cape York

We visit the beautiful Lockerbie Scrub, an isolated pocket of monsoon rainforest, on our way to historic Somerset. This afternoon, an emotional walk to the very top of Australia, Cape York!

Day 7: Cairns

Cruise across to Thursday Island, capital of the Torres Strait Islands. Enjoy a guided tour of the island. We are transferred by ferry to Horn Island. Enjoy spectacular views of the Great Barrier Reef as we fly to Cairns, arriving at approximately 5.30pm.

Returns: Cairns Qantas Domestic Airport at approximately 5:30pm - flight times to be confirmed. The safari terminates at the airport.

Fly/Drive Itinerary

Departs: Cairns Qantas Domestic Airport at approximately 8:00am - flight times to be confirmed. Guests are to make their own way to the airport by 7:00am and meet near the check-in counters. A Gulf of Carpentaria tour representative will be at the airport to distribute luggage tags, a Thursday Island Information Pack and assist with a group check-in.
