Itinerary

Travel through cattle stations, past Amoonguna, Owen Springs Station, Undoolya and Deep Well to the Aboriginal Community of Santa Teresa. The Aboriginal people of Santa Teresa are Eastern Aranda.

The original Santa Teresa Mission was established by the Catholic Church at what became Arltunga in the 1880's.
In the early 1900's typhoid wiped out a large number of the Aboriginal population and they would no longer live there so the mission was moved to its present site.

On arrival we enjoy the wonderful views from the lookout taking in the community of Santa Teresa and beyond to the ranges before visiting the Mission Church.

We see the influence of the early Catholic Missionaries in the magnificent murals covering the walls of the church. Hear their stories behind these paintings and gain an insight into the Aboriginal culture, their connection to land, kinship relationships and responsibilities.

At the Keringke Art Centre we are able to see the Aboriginal artists at work. Their senior artist, Kathleen Wallace is world renowned. Keringke Art Centre produces fine art including canvas, ceramics and silk.

This is a wonderful opportunity to talk with the artists and acquire a beautiful piece of art work.
